It is widely accepted that American television is now undergoing a renaissance with the emergence of an increasingly literary form of programming (Mittell 29). This new form does not shy away from requiring audiences to engage on a deeper level with the work and with complex and difficult characters. The HBO police drama, The Wire, is one of these programs. Set on the realistically gritty streets of West Baltimore, The Wire is the creation of Baltimore reporter turned television produced David Simon. Simon took his experience reporting on crime, corruption and politics in Baltimore and from that he created an essentially American drama, dealing with the tragic results of the of the pursuit of the American dream in an America that has lost its way.
This troubling vision of the American dream is embodied in one of the most compelling characters of The Wire, the rogue stick-up artist, Omar Little. This was my final project for my TV and Ideas class. It is a light noir-inspired short.
The assignment was to shoot and edit an advertisement and then cut the ad down into many shorter versions.
This was an editing assignment from October 2011. I also shot all the footage.
This is an editing assignment focused on learning new ways to use Final Cut Pro. All footage in this short segment comes from one of the most beautiful films ever shot, Polanski's Chinatown. There are no original edits from the film in this work and all the audio is recreated with the exception of the little synced dialogue.
I love the new East River Ferry. I wanted to share some of it in this little bit of video shot on my iPhone with the 8mm app. The music is Morning Fog from the album Rome by Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi.
This is a video I produced as part of my Media Econ class to demonstrate my business concept for Book'd: a multimedia reader.
This was a quick assignment to write, shoot and edit a simple interrogation scene. I had fun.
